Food Review – Kouzu Japanese Tapas Bar TTDI

[ADV]   The F&B scene in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (TTDI) which has seen many changes over the years. This I know first hand because I used to live in TTDI for over 20 years. When TTDI was first inhabited in the early 80’s, it was a sleepy little housing area on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur neighbouring a palm oil estate. In fact, our food choices were pretty limited to a couple of Chinese coffeeshops or kopitiams and mamaks until the arrival of KFC, McDonald’s, White Castle, Pizza Hut and Grandy’s in the late 80’s which triggered a fast … Continue reading Food Review – Kouzu Japanese Tapas Bar TTDI

NESCAFE Gold Blend Barista Machine

[ADV]   I love coffee! I drink at least one a day, sometimes more when I have multiple meetings with clients which are at cafes. However drinking coffee outside can be expensive so my morning cuppa is usually one that I make at home. I first started with powdered instant coffee, flirted with 3-in-1 coffees before I decided they were too sweet, progressed to 2-in-1 coffees, before settling on freeze-dried coffee. I did try drip dry coffees however I found it too tedious and hated the cleaning up after. Hence freeze-dried coffee is was for many years as its flavours, … Continue reading NESCAFE Gold Blend Barista Machine

Christmas Dinner Reviews – December 2016

[Special Feature] Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur   Gobo Chit Chat – Level 5 Nicole, Pearl and I headed over to Gobo Chit Chat which is the hotel’s all day dining restaurant for a preview of their Christmas buffet dinner. Gobo Chit Chat features a wide selection of contemporary Western and Asian cuisines and even has a sushi bar.  It can seat 215 guests and is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. The seafood at Gobo Chit Chat is very fresh and is refilled continuously while the sushi and sashimi bar has more than adequate varieties. The girls of course … Continue reading Christmas Dinner Reviews – December 2016

Food Review – Supperclub KL @ TREC

[ADV]   The MHB girls and I headed over to Supperclub KL recently to try out their newly revamped menu. Supperclub is an upscale Gastrobar and Lounge, and was one of the first tenants in the Electric Boulevard or Phase 1 of TREC, which  is the country’s first and only purpose-built, urban F&B, lifestyle and commercial destination. After some months in operation, Supperclub noticed that TREC lacked a F&B establishment which offered diners a premium dining experience and thus engaged the services of an experienced international chef to revamp their menu to meet that need. We were very honoured to be one … Continue reading Food Review – Supperclub KL @ TREC

Review – Private Room and The Pawn Room TTDI

[Review]   TTDI has become quite the hub for an eclectic mix of food and beverage and night entertainment outlets in the Klang Valley. The good variety of restaurants featuring fare from different cultures attracts many diners to the suburb which is a far cry from the times when I used to live there (we used to only have a KFC, Pizza Hut, couple of Chinese coffeeshops and some Indian mamaks). Among the notable ones is the cat cafe, a bicycle themed cafe, a cafe selling salted egg cronuts, a Chinese Muslim restaurant, and a new speakeasy bar called The … Continue reading Review – Private Room and The Pawn Room TTDI

Healthy Eats – Chopstick Diner & The Magnificent Seven Movie Review

[Review]   If you’re a regular reader of this site, you’d notice that I mostly do premium to high-end establishments. While the food is pretty awesome most of the time, the inclusion of a lot of rather fattening ingredients such as cream and foie gras. While they are certainly delicious, they are not the most healthy ingredients around therefore I decided to try something different for a change. Hence I decided to contact the folks from http://www.chockstickdiner.com who very generously delivered a whole bunch of healthy lunch boxes for me to try. Chockstickdiner is an online delivery service delivering healthy … Continue reading Healthy Eats – Chopstick Diner & The Magnificent Seven Movie Review

Oktoberfest Platter (2016) at Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant

[Food Review]   MHB’s Jamie and Jean, Jean’s friend, and Andy Kho recently joined me at Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant at Sunway Pyramid to try out the 2016 Oktoberfest Platter as well as some new dishes in the menu.  Oktoberfest was initially started as wedding celebration in 1810 to commemorate the union between Crown Prince Ludwig (who later became King Ludwig I) and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen at Theresienwiese (translated as Therese’s meadow / field) – it is for this reason that Oktoberfest is referred to by Germans as ‘die Wiesn’ or ‘the field’ Through the years, Oktoberfest … Continue reading Oktoberfest Platter (2016) at Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant

Food Review – Hoople Wine Bar at Desa Sri Hartamas

[Review]   My partner in crime and I headed over to Hoopla Wine Bar one busy evening to check out this latest addition to the night entertainment outlet scene in bustling Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur. Hoopla shares some of the same owners as Chapter One sports bar downstairs and thus you can also order Chapter One’s food at Hoopla. However the concept of both establishments are vastly different with Chapter One being more of a sports bar with a live band while Hoopla is a wine bar with low tables and sofas along with an extensive wine list which … Continue reading Food Review – Hoople Wine Bar at Desa Sri Hartamas

New Menu at Rendez-Vouz Traditional French Restaurant Bangsar

[Review] I first visited Rendez-Vouz back in December last year (which you can read here – https://timchew.net/2015/12/14/food-review-rendez-vous-french-restaurant-in-bangsar/) however they have recently acquired the services of a new chef – Chef Benjamin from France, and with him came a new menu. The new menu elevates the dishes to a higher level while maintaining the reasonable prices that the restaurant is famous for. The ambience of Rendez-Vous Bangsar is more of an upscale French bistro, where you take the time to enjoy your food and drinks with good company. The French are known to really enjoy their mealtimes which can stretch several hours … Continue reading New Menu at Rendez-Vouz Traditional French Restaurant Bangsar
