Food Review – Fresca Mexican Kitchen & Bar at Avenue K

[Review] Most of you who follow this site would know that I normally review the more high-end dining establishments in the Klang Valley and beyond as part of my “romantic dining spots” series which I have had for a couple of years now. However with the market being so soft and the price of everything increasing due to the weak ringgit, now everyone will have so much disposable income to go to high-end establishments that often. So where do you go if you want to bring your partner out for a date night yet not burn a huge hole in … Continue reading Food Review – Fresca Mexican Kitchen & Bar at Avenue K

Oktoberfest Platter (2016) at Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant

[Food Review]   MHB’s Jamie and Jean, Jean’s friend, and Andy Kho recently joined me at Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant at Sunway Pyramid to try out the 2016 Oktoberfest Platter as well as some new dishes in the menu.  Oktoberfest was initially started as wedding celebration in 1810 to commemorate the union between Crown Prince Ludwig (who later became King Ludwig I) and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen at Theresienwiese (translated as Therese’s meadow / field) – it is for this reason that Oktoberfest is referred to by Germans as ‘die Wiesn’ or ‘the field’ Through the years, Oktoberfest … Continue reading Oktoberfest Platter (2016) at Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant

Food Review – Hoople Wine Bar at Desa Sri Hartamas

[Review]   My partner in crime and I headed over to Hoopla Wine Bar one busy evening to check out this latest addition to the night entertainment outlet scene in bustling Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur. Hoopla shares some of the same owners as Chapter One sports bar downstairs and thus you can also order Chapter One’s food at Hoopla. However the concept of both establishments are vastly different with Chapter One being more of a sports bar with a live band while Hoopla is a wine bar with low tables and sofas along with an extensive wine list which … Continue reading Food Review – Hoople Wine Bar at Desa Sri Hartamas

New Menu at Rendez-Vouz Traditional French Restaurant Bangsar

[Review] I first visited Rendez-Vouz back in December last year (which you can read here – https://timchew.net/2015/12/14/food-review-rendez-vous-french-restaurant-in-bangsar/) however they have recently acquired the services of a new chef – Chef Benjamin from France, and with him came a new menu. The new menu elevates the dishes to a higher level while maintaining the reasonable prices that the restaurant is famous for. The ambience of Rendez-Vous Bangsar is more of an upscale French bistro, where you take the time to enjoy your food and drinks with good company. The French are known to really enjoy their mealtimes which can stretch several hours … Continue reading New Menu at Rendez-Vouz Traditional French Restaurant Bangsar

All-You-Can-Eat Dim Sum at Dynasty Restaurant, Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel

[Hotel Happenings]   My partner in crime and I headed over to Dynasty Chinese Restaurant at Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel to try out their new All-You-Can-Eat Dim Sum (which FYI is non-halal). The made-to-order all-you-can-eat Dim Sum features a selection of over 30 items (you can refer to the list below) and is priced at RM88nett per person with half price for children aged 6 to 12 years old.  Chef Chong Foo Tuck who has over 30 years of culinary experience, makes all the dim sum from scratch daily, using only high quality and fresh ingredients. The choices range from steamed, … Continue reading All-You-Can-Eat Dim Sum at Dynasty Restaurant, Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel

Gekkeikan Sake Food Pairing Night at Aoki-Tei Japanese Restaurant

[Event]   MHB’s Kate Lee, Kelly Lee, Andy Kho and I attended the Gekkeikan sake and food pairing dinner at Aoki-Tei in Sunway Damansara hosted by the principle from Gekkeikan Sake – Masahiro Nagata who hails from Kyoto, Japan. Japan’s tradition of sake making began more than 2,000 years ago shortly after rice cultivation was introduced from China. The first few centuries yielded a beverage quite unlike that of today, however, years of experience perfected brewing techniques and increased sake’s overall appeal and popularity. In 1637, Gekkeikan’s founder, Jiemon Okura established his sake brewery in the town of Fushimi, a location well-known for its high … Continue reading Gekkeikan Sake Food Pairing Night at Aoki-Tei Japanese Restaurant

Food Review – Tiki Taka at Medan Damansara

[Review]   I recently headed over to Tiki Taka in Medan Damansara with Joey, Lynn, Andy Kho and his two little cousins to try out this newly opened restaurant and bar. The establishment is owned by Hans who formerly owned D’Legends Bar in TTDI. Hans got the idea for his new outlet when he travelled to Barcelona last year. He liked the culture of having meals in small portions so decided to introduce that concept here but instead of following the Spanish food culture, he decided to put a twist to it by having some Asian influence in the dishes. … Continue reading Food Review – Tiki Taka at Medan Damansara

Atria Shopping Gallery’s Comedy & Food Festival 2016

[Upcoming Event] I still remember going to Atria when I was back in secondary school. The neighbourhood mall was one of the favourite hang out spots for SMDJ students before/ after school and on Friday afternoons the KFC there would be full of students, while the Popular bookstore was one of the spots where students got their stationary and revision books. Over time however, newer and newer malls opened and Atria lost its appeal to a lot of shoppers due to its limited size and tenant mix. I was very glad to hear that Atria would be redeveloped. The new … Continue reading Atria Shopping Gallery’s Comedy & Food Festival 2016

[Romantic Dining Restaurants]   Over the past three (3) plus years, my partner in crime and I have visited most of the romantic dining spots (you can check out the list here – https://timchew.net/category/food/romantic-dining-spots/) in Kuala Lumpur and beyond however one of the few establishments that we have yet to visit is Tanzini at GTower so we were quite looking forward to this visit. Also so happened the timing fell close to my partner’s birthday so it was extra reason for us to be excited!   First up was an a la carte item which was one of my partner in … Continue reading Romantic Dining Restaurants – Tanzini at G Tower

July Happenings at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel

Updated on 15 July 2016 with the review of my visit to Villa Danieli to try out the “Chanterelle Affair” menu. [Hotel Happenings] A Chanterelle Affair at Villa Danieli   Villa Danieli in the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel is one of my favourite Italian restaurants thanks to its combination of a very romantic ambience and good food. Villa Danieli is a cozy free standing trattoria-style Italian restaurant housed on level 5 of the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel. I’ve been there quite a number of times over the past few years however some of the moments with my partner in … Continue reading July Happenings at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel
