Launch of Tinto Wine & Tapas Bar, Desa Sri Hartamas

[Event]   Lissa, Elaine and I headed over to Tinto wine and tapas bar in the bustling Desa Sri Hartamas recently for their official launch. Tinto is a bespoke Spanish Wine Bar, a contrast to the speakeasy bars mushrooming all over Kuala Lumpur, and bringing consumers the romance of old world wines. Tinto, which is the Spanish word for ‘Red Wine’ and the bar certainly has many variants of it, as well as white wines and champagnes in their cellar. The bar is located on the first floor of a Desa Sri Hartamas shoplot, and to locate it you need to … Continue reading Launch of Tinto Wine & Tapas Bar, Desa Sri Hartamas

[Tech & Gadgets]    Headed over to Nexus Bangsar South on 6 September 2016 for the launch of honor’s latest smartphone the honor 8. Now some of you might recall that I did review the honor 7 earlier this year – honor’s 2015/16 flagship model that the honor 8 is replacing. The honor 7 is already one very capable phone but the honor 8 is a whole new level altogether! Within a span of only two (2) years, honor has developed quite a reputation for providing affordable yet powerful smartphones, with good design to boot, factors that meet the needs of … Continue reading Honor 8 Launched in Malaysia

Food Review – Fresca Mexican Kitchen & Bar at Avenue K

[Review] Most of you who follow this site would know that I normally review the more high-end dining establishments in the Klang Valley and beyond as part of my “romantic dining spots” series which I have had for a couple of years now. However with the market being so soft and the price of everything increasing due to the weak ringgit, now everyone will have so much disposable income to go to high-end establishments that often. So where do you go if you want to bring your partner out for a date night yet not burn a huge hole in … Continue reading Food Review – Fresca Mexican Kitchen & Bar at Avenue K

Oktoberfest Platter (2016) at Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant

[Food Review]   MHB’s Jamie and Jean, Jean’s friend, and Andy Kho recently joined me at Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant at Sunway Pyramid to try out the 2016 Oktoberfest Platter as well as some new dishes in the menu.  Oktoberfest was initially started as wedding celebration in 1810 to commemorate the union between Crown Prince Ludwig (who later became King Ludwig I) and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen at Theresienwiese (translated as Therese’s meadow / field) – it is for this reason that Oktoberfest is referred to by Germans as ‘die Wiesn’ or ‘the field’ Through the years, Oktoberfest … Continue reading Oktoberfest Platter (2016) at Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant

Food Review – Hoople Wine Bar at Desa Sri Hartamas

[Review]   My partner in crime and I headed over to Hoopla Wine Bar one busy evening to check out this latest addition to the night entertainment outlet scene in bustling Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur. Hoopla shares some of the same owners as Chapter One sports bar downstairs and thus you can also order Chapter One’s food at Hoopla. However the concept of both establishments are vastly different with Chapter One being more of a sports bar with a live band while Hoopla is a wine bar with low tables and sofas along with an extensive wine list which … Continue reading Food Review – Hoople Wine Bar at Desa Sri Hartamas

Lucky Dior

[Luxury Fashion]   “A gentleman wears his signet ring on his left hand, but a Kingsman agent wears it on his dominant hand. Press the back of it with your thumb and it emits a 50,000 volt shock.” by Harry Hart aka Galahad in Kingsman: The Secret Service (2015). Signet rings have a flat bezel, usually wider than the rest of the hoop, which is decorated to leave a raised impression of the design when the ring is pressed onto soft sealing wax or a similar material. They have been used since ancient times as the personal seal of an individual and their … Continue reading Lucky Dior

Editor’s Note – September 2016

Over the past month, I was using the new Canon M10 to shoot at a couple of events and food reviews. The Canon EOS M10 is a system/ mirrorless shooter with a 18.0 megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor, Hybrid CMOS AF II, and 180° Tilt-type Touchscreen LCD+Self Portrait Mode among its main features. I only had it for a rather short period of time however I did manage to use it to shoot a couple of food reviews and an event.   Flambeed with bourbon! Food review at Naughty Nuri’s – https://timchew.net/2016/08/01/editors-note-august-2016/ The autofocus had to be fast and accurate for this shot and luckily … Continue reading Editor’s Note – September 2016

New Menu at Rendez-Vouz Traditional French Restaurant Bangsar

[Review] I first visited Rendez-Vouz back in December last year (which you can read here – https://timchew.net/2015/12/14/food-review-rendez-vous-french-restaurant-in-bangsar/) however they have recently acquired the services of a new chef – Chef Benjamin from France, and with him came a new menu. The new menu elevates the dishes to a higher level while maintaining the reasonable prices that the restaurant is famous for. The ambience of Rendez-Vous Bangsar is more of an upscale French bistro, where you take the time to enjoy your food and drinks with good company. The French are known to really enjoy their mealtimes which can stretch several hours … Continue reading New Menu at Rendez-Vouz Traditional French Restaurant Bangsar
